Capacity building

The capacity-building pillar of the program is aimed at improving staff performance and productivity and also equips them with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their roles. So, the program organizes 3 capacity building/refresher sessions annually to train new staff on program activities and refresh the knowledge of the old staff for improvement in the quality of care offered to the clients and patients. Capacity-building sessions have been organized for:
Know Your Numbers Nurses
To strengthen their capacity for community-based intervention activities, especially awareness raising, screening, lifestyle modification counseling and referrals.
Diabetes and Hypertension Educators
To empower them with proper counseling, diagnosis, and management skills for patients diagnosed with diabetes and hypertension.
Community Mobilizers, NCD Peer Educators, and NCD Champions
To build their capacities on community mobilization skills, identification of NCD risk factors to facilitate linkages between vulnerable persons in the community as the NCD nurses at the health facilities as a way to enable them to access NCD care and obtain proper treatment as the need may arise. The NCD peer educators and champions also help to encourage diabetes and hypertension patients through regular home visits, thus identifying and linking defaulters back to treatment, and above all encouraging all patients to adhere to treatment.
