In 2014, the CBCHS worked collaboratively with the MoH to design, its current NCD prevention and control program in response to the growing prevalence of NCDs in the country.  Since then, the program has continued to work with the MoH, to improve national response through improved policies, training of the health work-force, designing and implementation of effective community-directed interventions. For instance, in 2019 the program developed a hypertension management protocol together with the MoH to standardize hypertension care in Cameroon. Also, in 2021, with MoH support the program started a research with intentions to develop a policy for the elimination of trans-fats in Cameroonian foods.

NCD Alliance: CBCHS has been a major actor in global and national platforms for the fight against NCDs and used its influence to strengthen NCD response in the country. In 2018, the CBCHS in collaboration with the government, some major NCD INGOs and CSOs, jointly initiated the country’s first-ever platform for NCD actors- the National NCD Alliance to work collaboratively to curb NCDs in Cameroon and revive the efforts against the negative impact of the rising burden. The CBCHS was the pioneer host of the alliance’s secretariat until 2021.

Ministry of Secondary Education: In the past five years, CBCHS has been strengthening its NCD response in the younger population (0-20 years) due to the increasing burden of NCDs in this age group. Consequently, the program is working with multiple stakeholders to elaborate effective NCD prevention strategies both at facility and community levels targeting these age groups. At the facility levels, the program collaborates with CBCHS hospitals to set up pediatric diabetic clinics for better management of children with diabetes. At the community level, the program recently signed an agreement with the North West Regional Delegation of Secondary Education to carry out youth-friendly NCD prevention awareness and screening in select secondary schools within the region. This initiative will serve as a pilot and will inform the scale-up of this school-based NCD prevention approach in the country.
