The Cameroon Civil society NCD Alliance brought a new energy in the fight against NCDs in this 2019 enough NCDs campaign on the theme: ‘‘NCDs and UHC: Delivering healthy lives for all’, a follow-up to the first UN- High Level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage which held on 23rd September 2019 during the UN General Assembly in New York, USA to ensure NCD dimensions and priorities are integrated into universal health coverage.
Galvanising commitment for the fight against NCDs in Cameroon, was the driving force for the CACSNA’s enough campaign. As part of activities to mark the second global week for action on Non Communicable Diseases, CASCNA had a Social media spree, press briefing, health walk, screening for NCDs (Know Your Numbers), and physical exercises featuring aerobic dances.
The clarion call was on the Government of Cameroon to step up & translate NCD Prevention commitments into actions, in order to improve on the health status of the population. This is especially important because, promises announced by decision-makers of our country at international meetings do not materialize on the ground. The urgency of “turning the rhetoric of high-level meetings into true and measurable health for all” is becoming increasingly acute.
Social and conventional media platforms were used to reach out to the public with messages on: what NCDs are; their risk factors; unhealthy diets; tobacco use; alcohol misuse; physical inactivity and air pollution. The Alliance also highlighted successes by recounting milestones attained thus far in the light of NCDs.
