The CBC Health Services is a recognized faith-based health services organization in Cameroon, providing health care for more than 60 years now as an expression of Christian love.
Having practically lived the health transition of the in developing countries driven by the strong forces of urbanization, globalization and demographic ageing, fuelling an increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases (diseases which cannot be transmitted from one person to another) such as cardiovascular disease, cancers, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases and mental disorders. They are creating a double burden of disease as we have not yet finished tackling infectious diseases. Now, we have to do both to ensure that health is one and inseparable.
In Cameroon, NCDs account for 35% of annual deaths (WHO 2016). In 2015, a Situational Analysis done within seven CBC Health Services showed a 40% rise in the number of new cases of NCDs presenting in the health facilities. Our efforts have therefore been to develop and integrate a comprehensive response –to help reduce the number of deaths, illnesses and disabilities from NCDs. One of the ways to do this is to drive the conversation and inspire action across sectors.
